These sausage patties are off the charts in flavor, high in fats, and low in carbs, making them a perfect option for a tasty and fulfilling keto breakfast.
Although it only takes about half an hour to cook them, you can make them ahead of time and freeze them. This way, you’ll always have an unbelievably delicious breakfast ready in the freezer. The fact that each patty only has 2 net carbs allows you to serve it any way you prefer.
The chosen ingredients, spices, and herbs, ideally combine together to make sure that the ready patties are flavorful and juicy. If you’ve never heard of grating onion into the ground meat before forming the patties, then you should definitely try it! You won’t regret it.

What Makes These Patties So Good
Not many people know this, but the one ingredient that gives juiciness and takes the taste of the meat to the next level is the grated onion. I used to chop it up and add it to the minced meat, but since I tried grating the onion, I’ve never made the keto breakfast patties any other way.
I decided to add some milk for those that don’t like the taste of onion in their patties. Yes, it may sound weird, but milk neutralizes the smell of onion and softens the patties.
Also, I add the perfect blend of spices and herbs — Kirkland Signature Organic No-Salt Seasoning. It has everything that you’ll need to add to your patties. If you don’t have this seasoning mix on your kitchen shelves, you can make something similar by yourself. Just mix together dried oregano, parsley, rosemary, thyme, basil, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper.
A nice touch to the patties would be to roll them in some almond flour. You’ll get a distinct nutty flavor. But since it increases the number of carbs in the recipe, I chose to skip this part.
Best Meat For Patties
For a couple of years now, I’ve been grinding meat on my own. I like to know where the meat comes from and to know how much fat there actually is. Trust me, there’s a huge difference in the taste of the meat that you grind by yourself and the store-bought one.
When grinding the beef or pork, I always make sure that there is about 40% fat. The cuts that I usually use for it are:
- Chuck steak
- Brisket
- Plate
- Sirloin
- Pork shoulder
If you want to try it but don’t have a grinder, you don’t necessarily need one to do it. You can use a food processor, which is actually easier to use for grinding meat! Or you can also hand chop the meat.
How to Cook Them
There are a few ways that you can go for cooking these keto breakfast patties — skillet, oven, or air fryer. I usually go with the first option since the juiciness gets preserved, but the two other options are also very good.
If you want to cook the patties in the oven, then preheat it to 350F, place a piece of parchment paper in the oven pan, and put the patties. Bake them for about 20-25 minutes.
If you choose to go with the air fryer option, simply place the keto patties into the basket and fry for 20-25 minutes at 390 F. Flip to the other side at the halfway mark.
Meal Prep For Keto Breakfast
Almost twice a week, I make myself a breakfast meal that contains these keto patties. But this doesn’t mean that I go through the whole process of cooking them every morning.
I like this recipe because it’s a great meal prep option. I make thrice the patties in the recipe card and keep my freezer stocked with them. They can be stored for up to 4 months. Whenever I need a patty, I just throw it into the microwave and heat it for about 3 minutes.
I also like to use the air fryer to defrost the keto patties since it’s really quick and it keeps them juicy.
Ways to Serve the Sausage Patties
You can get highly creative when putting together a keto breakfast with these patties. Personally, I usually go two ways — patties and fried eggs, or a burger.
For the first option, I fry an egg in the skillet, place a patty, then the egg on top, and one more patty on top of the egg. Then I just chop up some veggies on the side.
For the burger, I just do the same but wrap it up in a salad. I also add one of my favorite keto-friendly sauces.
